Sam P Jones - Roselawn, May 24, 2002

Another visit to Cartersville and the memory of Sam Jones.

Roy Greenhill Sr and Sam P Jones in Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, Cartersville, GA - Friday, May 24, 2002.

RG in Sam's Chair. Mrs Jones taught Sunday School in this room for twenty years after the death of her husband.

Mildred Mitchell (Mrs Lane Mitchell) in the Sanctuary. Mildred was born less than two years after the death of Sam Jones.

This table and the chair are the only two surviving furniture items that the Joneses used.

Darlene Greenhill (Mrs Roy Greenhill, Sr) and Mildred Mitrchell in the sitting room of Roselawn.

Forgive the pose, but this is the Jones family gravesite with Sam Jones's Marker, on a hilltop so that passing trains can see it and travelers be reminded of the preacher of righteousness and laughter.

I asked Darlene to pose with the beautiful oak across from the gravesite on the hilltop.

"They that be wise shall shine as the firmament, and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever." Daniel 12:3.  More apt words were never applied to any person than these from which Sam P Jones's epitaph was adapted. This was a good and great man, who though full of mirth was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief beyond any measure.
