'Thus Ever With Tyrants'
or: 'The Final Solution in Kosovo'
by Roy Greenhill
It is cause for despair that we are ending this century where we started -- in a deadly dispute concerning Serbia. The US had no legitimate interest in the first dispute (over a pig trail) and the US has no interest in this latter controversy over secession by a province of Serbia.
Every ruler who does not enthrone democracy is a criminal. It is sad that the majority of humans are governed by criminal regimes. But the democracies cannot impose freedom (therefore should not try) on those who do not desire it for themselves and others, or who are incapable of exercising it due to tribal loyalties and hatreds. We could do something though.
We could continue to lead by example. We could boycott all trade with nations that eschew democracy. None of the dictatorships have minerals that are essential to our health and happiness. Or, we could have very limited trade with these countries.
But no! Our leaders have formed a coalition of 600 million to bomb to death a land of 20 million, while we seek expanded trade and contact with tyrants far more dangerous than they of the tiny land we are now destroying. I am embarrassed for out children to learn the horror of what the USA is doing -- and not doing.
We are the land of democracy, free capital and free-enterprise. Our partners have various forms of democracy AND Socialism; Socialist parties rule in all of them. We should be attempting to lead them to full freedom of speech (which none of them enjoy) and free-enterprise, while we apply maximum incentives for all countries to enthrone democratic processes. Some flowers can be transplanted; the flower of Freedom and Democracy must spring forth from seed, not a cutting that is transplanted in a bomb crater. The seed we have to scatter is the message of Christian America. God speaks and rules through sovereign individuals who express their will in the sanctity of a free and private voting booth under a constitution that recognizes the divine origin of every person and protects each from even the tyranny of the majority. What people would ever embrace such an arrangement? Only those with a disdain for any and all undemocratic entities and who hold a deep reverence for the Creator of all people.
A lot is being said about bombing Serbia because we did not do enough to stop an arch-enemy of democracy, Adolf Hitler. This deserves a little examination that might be quite instructive.
The boycott principle advocated above would have stopped Hitler dead in his tracks. Even the limited boycott of world Jewry would have deterred Hitler; that is why Hitler embraced the goals of Zionism when that was necessary to have the Jewish boycott called to a halt. If the Western world had joined with Jewry in a boycott Hitler would have been brief history and millions of lives would have been spared. Historian Paul Johnson says that World War II made Israel necessary. The great historian is tragically incorrect; the Zionist element of Jewry, it its determination to create Israel, allowed World War II to happen by canceling the boycott declared by world Jewry. Journalist-Historian Edwin Black's THE TRANSFER AGREEMENT documents this sad fact.
